A few weeks ago I traveled to Barcelona and Majorca with Jeremy and two other great friends. It was only for a week but was so much fun! I gotta say Fall is definitely my favorite season to travel just because: 1. There are less tourists than the peak seasons and so then you get to see more and get into places more easily (you can still make last minute reservations, or no reservations at all!). Plus from my personal experience I could feel that the locals are wayyy more welcoming during the off seasons. 2. The temperature is still perfect in a lot of places during the fall! Barcelona & Majorca were both around 75 - 80 degrees while we were there at the end of October.

Jeremy and I first landed in Barcelona and spent two days there and then took a plane to Majorca (shortest flight time - only 30 minutes lol!) to meet up with our friends. We spent four days on the island and then flew back to Barcelona and spent a few more days there before we packed our things and flew back to US. It was a lot of packing and unpacking but I wouldn’t have it any other ways! I highly recommend start traveling to Spain in the fall if you think summer travels are too overwhelming.

Barcelona

Attractions:

1. Sagrada Família

   This magnificent church by Gaudí is still not completed (plan to be completed by 2026 to celebrate 100 years of Gaudí’s work!) It was interesting to see how Gaudí integrate nature into his architectural design.

2. Casa Milà

   25 Euro entrance fee but includes an audio guide. It’s where you can learn the reasons behind each and every architectural detail that Gaudí creates. This is the architecture where I truly started to appreciate Gaudí’s work. The place also showcase how the rich people lived back in the 19th centuries.

3. Museu Picasso

   I found this Museum so interesting because it showcases Picasso’s works BEFORE his rise to fame with creation of Cubism. There are not many of his famous work in this Museum but it is still worth a visit to see how Picasso’s formative years shaped his work as a genius artist.

4. Park Guell

   Ahh the most famous park in Barcelona! Another Gaudí’s work that’s ahead of its time with driveways and parking garage for cars. It’s honestly beautiful!

5. Gothic Quarter

Food (TAPAS!!):

1. El Xampanyet

   SOOOO EFFIN GOOD! You have to go there for tapas if you are in Barcelona! It is super crowded (yes, even in the fall) which means even the locals love it! We waited for a bit to get seated and ordered bunch of things. Their Padrón peppers with steaks is to die for! The grilled octopus literally melts in your mouth! And the price is very affordable - definitely go (even if you have to wait 30 min)!!

2. Bormuth

   Another tapa place that’s so delicious and affordable! We actually over ordered lol for just Jeremy and I and the waiters were a bit shocked…we were hungry LOL!

3. Els 4 Gats

   This cafe is famous for Picasso’s hang out spot when he was young and he actually held his first art gallery in this cafe! The food was alright but the decoration and the ambiance definitely made up for it (Also the history behind it)!

4. Bodega 1900

   Very delicious but also very overpriced. Jeremy watched Chef’s Table on Netflix and the owner of this restaurant also owns Tickets (which we didn’t get the reservation for) so he wanted to try it out. We did make a reservation for this one and it was very good but honestly I rather go to El Xampanyet twice haha!

One thing I found it pretty interesting is that Barcelona is very into Gin! In any bar there will be a full list of Gin cocktails but just few items of other liquor. Maybe I am wrong but I thought it was pretty cool since I am definitely a gin person haha.

Things to Do:

1. Explore Palma

   We visited their museums and also just explore the the town squares. Also there are a lot of shopping in Mallorca (so is Barcelona but for some reason I find things in Majorca cheaper haha)

2. Rent a car for a day to visit Alcúdia and Pollença

   We took a day to just explore cities outside of Palma. We even went through a drive to get to Lighthouse of Cap de Formentor! The views are spectacular, but it was pretty scary/dangerous drive! Thankfully Jeremy is a great driver - I don’t think I could make that drive. There were no buses compared to what people say in the summer but there were still many cars and cyclists trying to navigate the tiny roads.

3. Visit Their wineries

   The winery we decided to check it out is called Bodega Ribas. It was super relaxing after a long drive around Majorca to just sit down and do some wine tasting! The place was also beautiful of course it would be a nice place to have dinners :)

4. Take the vintage train to Sóller

   We took a day trip out to Sóller, a beautiful town in Majorca that’s isolated by mountains and primarily well known for growing oranges. This was probably one of my favorite days in Majorca just to explore this little town and not to mention that the entire train ride there was AMAZING!

5. Take a boat tour!

   Our boat ride started at Santa Ponsa, which was around 30 minute bus ride from Palma. The temperature was around 80 degrees! It’s perfect for a little swim in the water haha! I am not a swimmer but I did go down to feel the water and freaked out because it was SUPER DEEP ( I mean look at that picture of Jeremy!) But overall the water was super nice even in October!

This trip was too short!!! I had so much fun and I hope you do too when you visit these two places that I thought would just be “OKAY” but turned out to be one of my favorite places to visit! Now go travel! :D
